Now then... We're nearly at the end of 2016 and there's a lot of folks out there who are looking forward to wave it goodbye... It's been a tough one for many and rightly or wrongly, I suspect some kind of energetic crack needing to be healed. Lets see how we manage this in 2017. As for us well we've had an ok year however I'm aware I've not written many posts and I am determined to get that back on track in the new year. We're also planning to start the 'world food nights' again and increase the music scene at the bistro. Lots of great gigs coming up from over the pond this coming year so watch this space. We've had a great Christmas Day offering free meals to about 30 people and the atmosphere was very familial and joyful. We did baby Jesus proud! We managed to raise over £1400.00 for the two charities we chose to support this year so all in all a good endeavour it was. I would like to thank all the team at the bistro who makes our little den a very special place to gather, chill and sometimes enjoy a mighty good show!!! On this pic you have Linda Hewitt (chief executive from hospice at home, one of the two charities we supported this Christmas) and little moi! Anyhoow, on behalf of the WZB team and myself, we wish you a great dive into 2017 and invite you to join us in activating the well needed healing process and love spreading at home and further afield. "They needed to tow the dinghy full with 58 people to the port of Skala. This took one and a half hours. A lot of people were cold. They were in the water for a long time. No one had emergency blankets, some people were passed out, some people were injured." - Marga, Lighthouse Relief volunteer, Lesvos, describing one of the boats with people we needed to urgently give emergency assistans to on Lesvos on December 18th. War and persecution do not stop for the holidays. Neither have the boat landings on Lesvos. Last week, we assisted three boat landings all in one day. The same week, we were shaken by the news of lost lives in a downed boat off the coast of Turkey, heading for Lesvos from Ayvalik. The journey is dangerous, and the destination is not safe either. It is extremely cold, and for fleeing refugees, a great risk is hypothermia. In December, we have welcomed 462 people to Lesvos - over 100 women and children. We've helped pregnant women, young children, senior citizens - for them, this journey is especially dangerous. Our teams on Lesvos are spending their holidays giving a warm welcome to refugees. They are watching the water 24/7 from the cliffs of Korakas. They immediately respond to any landings, rushing with emergency blankets, food and water to help. No matter the political climate or the temperature, we will be here. While you celebrate this season with family and friends, please remember those who continue to flee their homes. Please act now to help arriving refugees. A gift to Lighthouse Relief can provide crucial emergency support. It is needed, now, more than ever. www.lighthouserelief.org #LightNow
